Role // Full-stack engineer · SaaS builder

Useful software. Dependable systems.

I use pragmatic, sometimes boring technology to build systems that solve real problems, stay stable in production, and remain easy to change.

NZ employer-accreditation data product

NZ Accredited Employer Inspector

An accredited-employer data product for New Zealand job seekers and developers: a Chrome extension, interactive insights, dated Open Data snapshots, and a public API.

  • Lets job seekers check accreditation in LinkedIn and SEEK while keeping official facts, exact matches, and user-confirmed associations as separate evidence.
  • Builds a canonical NZBN-keyed employer dataset from validated MBIE imports and user-triggered INZ observations, with no silent page checks.
  • Publishes an interactive employer landscape, immutable privacy-safe data snapshots, and a bounded read-only API for reuse.

Open-source product

PigeonPod OSS

A self-hosted system that turns YouTube and Bilibili content into protected podcast feeds, with controllable sync, downloads, and storage.

  • 1.2K+ GitHub stars and 101K+ Docker pulls show sustained demand for a self-hosted media workflow.
  • Converts channels, playlists, and individual videos into protected RSS feeds for standard podcast clients, with configurable audio or video output.
  • Automates sync and history backfill, with batch download controls, per-feed retention rules, and local or S3-compatible storage.

02 // Writing

Technical notes.

Notes from real systems: PigeonPod Cloud, SaaS trade-offs, and backend-heavy product engineering.

03 // Engineering stack

Dependable stack.

I prefer technology that is proven, observable, cheap enough to run, and simple enough to maintain.

Backend systems

Java, Spring Boot, queues, and data

APIs, service boundaries, MySQL, Redis, background jobs, distributed scheduling, and failure handling.

Frontend interfaces

React and Astro product surfaces

Readable interfaces for SaaS products, landing pages, dashboards, and content-heavy portfolio pages.

Delivery

Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and cost control

Deployment pipelines and operating choices sized for the business: reliable enough, simple enough, and cheap enough.

04 // Experience

Engineering background.

Product-building, engineering leadership, computer science study, and hands-on delivery across China and New Zealand.

Auckland / NZT

I am based in Auckland and best suited to backend-leaning full-stack work, SaaS product engineering, queue-heavy systems, and teams that balance product curiosity with production discipline.

Best fit

Java, Spring Boot, React, clear service boundaries, boring infrastructure, and production systems that are easy to operate.
